1st Trip out for 2008 8-23-08

A new name for the boat this year. I did this in honor of my Dad's sailboat he called Rock n' Roll which our family had many a great time on when I was a kid.

The marina looks pretty much the same this year. I had to set the sails up, I did what I could in dock, and then when out at sea finish the set up.

I see the Progressive Insurance boat is still there, I wonder if they ever take it out?

Do you see my anchor hanging from the bow? An improvement this year. Also note later that the jib will be flying 2 feet higher than last year making it easier to see past. Besides these things there is a new ship to shore radio, new antenna up top, some other new electrical wiring.

It seems like the high gas prices haven't limited the amount of motor boats ready to go out.

Out on the high seas. A very light wind today, thank goodness as it was hard enough to set up the sails out there since you can't do it in dock where you would rip the sails on the dock posts and other boats. All went well, it just took quite a while to do.

Note how high the jib is flying, much better I think. I have it slightly rolled up also today making it even higher at the moment.

It was a beautiful day, the wind was slow and from the south east which pretty much is opposite of where I would like it so I just sailed around here and there with others that were doing the same. Hmmm who has the right of way? So much for the good line of sight I nearly ran into two buoy's when I wasn't looking. Those things are big when you are almost on top of them!

I am steering with my foot, very easy going. I actually dozed off at the helm on the way back!.

Lots of beautiful relaxing views, much time to relax and enjoy.

Some planes were sky writing, I wasn't sure what they were saying. Well that's it for today, I easily took down the sails and brought her into to dock under motor power. It was fun being out, I hope to go out tomorrow and next weekend also. Not much left of the summer, I will try to make the most of it.
