2nd Trip out 8-24-08

Well I pulled away from the dock fast and I was out early. There were some clouds but the weather man said they would clear. It was very calm.

I was on my way, passing a lot of motor boats, maybe the price of gas was keeping them in dock, it sure was going to be a nice day.

No sooner did I get out of the marina and in the open sea when a ferry comes steaming down the channel right next to me. Some people wave to me, I wave back......slow that thing down!!!!

After nearly three hours of pleasant sailing I am where I want to be. I am going to anchor out by the big boys. I don't want any trouble trying to use the new anchor arrangement and fear I will mess it up on the first try. I am out by myself so there isn't much time to run back and forth from the bow to the stern and the motor.

I moore close to this big guy, I see he has a few dinghies on board to paddle in on, I hope it isn't too deep so I can walk in.

bRIAN

I put the boat hook over board to see how deep it is and to my surprise it is less than three feet so I will be walking in nice. I looks further than is was.

bRIAN

I stopped for a hot dog at the concession stand and then treated myself to a double ice cream cone, ahhhh it tasted so good! I reached the ocean and saw it wasn't too crowed, I don't think I heard anyone speaking english?

bRIAN

Most people had brought the kitchen sink with them, blankets, umbrellas, coolers, chairs, etc, they were ready for anything.

bRIAN

The further they got from the lifeguards and the area close to the walk the less they had with them.

Yikes, I just noticed the waves were huge! I wonder if this was an effect from Fay? People were in the water anyway, I wasn't even going to stick my big toe in, too many stories of people being sucked out to sea lately by the fierce waters.

.

bRIAN

The seagulls didn't mind and walked the beach looking for leftovers.

This huge wave even seems to catch the gulls eyes!.

But the seagull didn't seem to have much of a mind as he looked away just as the wave was going to break!!!!

This is a piping clover, they can run real fast and like to pick up fishy things that wash up with the waves.

The sand dunes were right behind me and the beach looked real small this year. More and more of it is washed out to sea each year.

bRIAN

I headed back to the boat. Hey where is my boat?

bRIAN

I think I see it parked right behind some people. Oh joy this will be some fun pulling out of the tight space. I am so glad I parked out far so no one would be near me.

bRIAN

Well I did pull out fine and was quickly away from the mooring. See you soon!

bRIAN

I looked down Fire Island maybe I will make it to Davis Park next weekend. It will be Labor Day weekend and very crowded. I will start out early. If you recall last year, I didn't have room to stop. I hope the weather is good.

The wind blew just perfect to get me home. I love this shot of other sailboats and the bridge, it is so scenic with the late afternoon sun glistening on the water.

This guy didn't have all his sails up but I passed him. Maybe the new jib arrangement is making me go faster?

bRIAN

Look I am passing some one else! They don't have all of their sails up either but it is still nice to pass other sailboats. Last year everyone was passing me.

bRIAN

I get closer to home port. It looks so nice out here, can I stay forever?

One last picture, a little blurred but so am I at this time. It was a great day of sailing and fun, much relaxed. I am red as a beat, can't wait to hit the shower and cool off. Hoping for some sailing next weekend, maybe I will have some mates.
